In a beautiful baby blessing in the Provo 50078th ward this morning, Arjax and Brinzlee Brooks proudly introduced their 9th child to the world with a name that left the congregation both bewildered and inspired: Tariff Marie Brooks.
The congregation watched in shock as Brother Brooks held Tariff to his American flag tie and kissed her tiny head. At the conclusion of the blessing, silence was only broken by whispers from the congregation questioning whether or not the infant had actually been named after a US economic policy. But the whispers of shock quickly transformed into statements of admiration as Young Women’s president, Emberleigh Jones immediately wrote the name in her “baby names” note on her phone.
“I thought that I had all the best baby names in my notes app already. But Tariff? That’s like so cutesy Republican core. I’m obsessed,” Emberleigh said.
As the name has already been added to Pinterest boards, and even received its own Canva font, Arjax and Brinzlee commented on their inspiration for their baby’s name:
“We just love how powerful it sounds. You know, you can’t spell tariff without if. It’s a symbol of how life is so full of possibilities, and we want Tariff to know just how much impact she really has on the rest of the world,” said Brinzlee
The name also reportedly honors Brother Brooks’ deep-rooted passion for economics and the time he spent growing his testimony doing summer sales.
“We’re just honored to set an example,” Arjax said humbly. “We know little Tariff will grow up to be strong, obedient, and capable of regulating foreign trade with both wisdom and equity.”
