Dead Body Mistaken as Sunbather Goes Unnoticed for Days

Here at BYU, students do more than just soak with each other. They also soak up the sun the moment it peeks out of the clouds of Fake Spring. However, the recent death of sophomore Bryce Garrison, 23, has cast a dismal shadow over campus.

Garrison’s body was discovered on the lawn near the Joseph Knight Building on Friday by a groundskeeper who noticed he hadn’t moved in 3 days.

“I honestly thought he was just sleeping in the sun like every other dude does when it gets above 60 degrees. I guess everyone else thought that too because when I finally checked on him, the rigor mortis had already set in,” says groundskeeper S. Emmet Terry.

Campus security confirmed that multiple students walked past Garrison throughout the week, assuming he was simply laying face down in the damp grass on account of the pleasant weather. Some even stepped over his body to find sunbathing spots of their own.

“I did think it was kind of weird when he didn’t leave after 7pm,” said junior Stacey Carter. “But I wasn’t about to question a man whose skin hasn’t seen the sun in months.”

Authorities estimate Garrison had been there for approximately 74 hours before being noticed. Campus officials are now considering new guidelines to differentiate between sunbathers and deceased individuals.

In a statement, BYU says they are committed to improving campus safety and will consider implementing a “2-hour sunbathing limit.” In the meantime, they students are encouraged to “check for signs of life” before assuming someone is just working on their base tan.
