BYU Students Wholeheartedly Participate in College Day of Service

Inspired by Utah’s College Day of Service, thousands of BYU students have answered the call to strengthen their community. It’s not possible to document all of the charitable acts of kindness performed by our student body, so we are showcasing a few of the most noteworthy examples.

Opening the Windows of Heaven
After realizing he still had money in his checking account after paying for rent and his MutualUp subscription, Noah Evans generously donated 63 cents in fast offerings. “It’s amazing to see people look beyond their own needs,” says Mason Walker, recipient of the two ramen packets purchased with Noah’s contribution. “I am so grateful for the support from my peers.”

I’ll Walk With You, I’ll Talk With You
When Isabella White received a delusional seventeen minute voice memo from her friend, she took the time to respond to her. “I knew it was going to be about that guy that looks like Timothée Chalamet in her chem lab again.” Isabella says. “But sometimes people just need someone to listen to them.”

Going the Extra Mile
Tired of living in squalor, Logan Davis kicked a soda can under the couch and washed a single dish. He also mentioned that vacuuming should be done sometime. “My roommates are really busy, and I wanted to do something nice for them. It feels good to give back.” Logan considered throwing away the half eaten onion that has been rotting in the fridge for two semesters, but decided to save it for next year’s Day of Service.

Courage to Serve
Beth Hansen was concerned about her Comms major roommate sleeping through all of her classes, so now she wakes her up a few hours early to make sure she gets there on time. “Lisa kind of hates me right now, but I’m sure she’ll be grateful one day,” Beth says confidently. “Until then, I’ll have to put up with her swearing at me.”

A Selfless Act of Faith
Today, Olivia Jensen made the difficult decision to break up with her high school boyfriend over Google Photos. “It was a devastating few hours for me,” Olivia says. “But I really wanted Jake to be able to focus on his mission and I know the Lord will bless us both for it.” Olivia would like the record to show that she is open to dating in the meantime. She would also like to mention that her family has a house by Lake Powell and that she is a natural blonde.
