Provo and Orem residents alike are beginning to notice a familiar orange banner on the storefront of what used to be the Deseret Book on University Parkway.
Unbeknownst to the public, the prominent religious book chain had been struggling for the past 9 quarters. With CTR ring sales down 70%, the store had no way to keep its doors open. Just as quickly as it vanished, the pop-up retailer materialized in its place.
Many saints are confused and saddened by the sudden change, while others aren’t feeling a loss.
“I went inside to buy missionary tie clips for my grandson and was lunged at by an inflatable light-up demon,” reports May Brimhall, an elderly Provo resident.
“I see this as an opportunity for people to embrace spirituality in a different way. There are just as many resources at the Spirit Halloween that embrace religiosity as there were at the Deseret Book,” said Astrid Moon, a 19-year old Orem resident who works at Al’s Sporting Goods and practices Wicca.
The LDS distribution center will still be run in the back of the store for those who are in need LDS religious clothing.
