It’s official: BYUtv’s Studio C has decided to join the WGA Writers Strike. With no new sketches for the foreseeable future, experts are projecting that this may finally give clean comedy a chance to heal.
The strike has been ongoing since May 2, 2023. While most agree on the importance of the strike’s objectives, audiences have been left anxious about the future of shows such as Severance, Abbott Elementary, and Stranger Things. However, very few have reported being worried about the next season of Studio C.
“Getting that show off the air is an answer to our prayers,” says Spencer Jackson, a 23-year-old UVU student studying sociology. He is part of the mass of people who remember hilarious sketches such as “Top Soccer Shootout Ever With Scott Sterling” and nothing else besides that.
While the show had once been a wholesome beacon for families in need of comic relief, more recent years have left parents wondering how appropriate it actually is for their children.
“My son is young and has a malleable sense of humor. It didn’t feel right to let him watch it anymore,” says McBrinzleigh Taylor, a young mother from Draper, Utah. McBrinzleigh’s comments fall in line with quantitative data recently released by the Pew Research Center, which show that Utah parents are now 60% more likely to let their kids watch SpongeBob Squarepants than Studio C.
Though no one knows how long the strike will last, many say they wouldn’t be upset, in the case of Studio C, if it was forever.
