He starred in The R.M. He shone in The Best Two Years. He hosted a BYUTV show that your Grandma really likes. And now, he has an Oscar. Kirby Heyborne, Mormon actor, has been awarded an Academy Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the art of film.
The award was presented by Quentin Tarantino, who said the following:
“Kirby has truly redefined the art form. We all remember when we first watched The R.M. When he was kicked in the face by that naked Asian man, we all knew we were watching something special. This was an artist, and we were all just witnesses to his glory.”
Heyborne thanked the Academy for their recognition. “I’ve been waiting for this a long time,” he said. “Ever since The Singles Ward, I knew I’d have an Oscar in my hands one day.”
Some were upset that the award was not given to Aaron Eckhart for his supporting roles in the seminary video, Godly Sorrow, and The Dark Knight. However, the Academy insisted that Heyborne’s contributions to film far outweigh any of his competitors.
