Cosmo Ends Racism With Dunk of the Century

In order to kickoff Black History Month, Cosmo Cougar and BYU Athletics wanted to celebrate in the only way they know how to do anything—with a giant stunt. Cosmo completed a dunk that rivaled the sheer power of all his previous dunks combined.

The stunt was performed as part of a special, surprise “devotional” this morning. After the opening hymn, “Free Bird,” and prayer, Cosmo took the microphone and said, “Who wants to see me do a big ol’ stunt?!” He then rode a motorcycle up to the top row of the Marriott Center where a ramp had been set up.

Cosmo rode down the ramp all the way to the ramp at the bottom. After hitting the jump he released the motorcycle and soared through rings of fire over ten school buses. When he reached the other side he dunked a flaming basketball that said #EndRacism. Immediately upon making the grandiose slam, the entire backboard shattered.

“We figured this kind of symbolic gesture would be more impactful than anything else we could have done,” said BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe.

Students provided a myriad of responses to the flashy act. Many were confused, while freshman and Springville native Lhiyam McPoyle said,  “You know, I wasn’t sure what to do about Black History Month, but now I feel like I’ve done my part.”

It is rumored that Cosmo will be performing similar stunts all over campus for the entirety of February.
