BYU Nativity Production Faces Criticism Regarding Their Fully White Cast

As the world enters the full swing of the Christmas season, Nativity reenactments have begun to pop up. Christian groups all over the country place their own spin on the birth of Jesus Christ and the celebration of Christmas. A Nativity troupe in Provo, though, has reached the hindrance of criticism regarding their completely and totally racially white cast.“

Representation in Christ’s gospel should be one of our top priorities,” stated Eliza Collins, a BYU student studying political science. Collins is just one voice out of many in the fight against racially homogenous Nativity stagings.

Rather than sharing Collins’s concerns, the cast of the BYU Nativity had their own words to say on the matter.

“This is stupid. Besides, I’m basically a person of color, since I served my mission in Brazil,” argued McKayleigh Allen, the show’s extremely pale, blonde, and Caucasian Mary. Allen declined to comment on whether the casting had favored her over other candidates.

The showrunners of the Nativity have yet to respond to the Alternate Universe’s request for comment.
