Quorum of the Twelve and First Presidency Compete in a Turkey Bowl

Gratitude, spending time with family, and eating an obscene amount of food are all irreplaceable Thanksgiving traditions. This year, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and the First Presidency decided to add to this list of traditions with the All-American tradition of the turkey bowl. President Russell M. Nelson served as the referee for this exciting event.

The first team, “Homies in Christ”—made up of Gary E. Stevenson, Gerrit W. Gong, Dale G. Renlund, Neil L. Andersen, D. Todd Christofferson, and Henry B. Eyring—had a flying start as Henry B. Eyring, quarterback, made a heroic touchdown in the first four minutes of the game. Neil L. Anderson topped the moment off with his successful field goal, making the score 7-0 in favor of Homies in Christ.

However, the lead didn’t last long, as the second team made a gripping comeback. “Holier Than Thou”—made up of Jeffrey R. Holland, M. Russell Ballard, Dieter F. Uchtdorf, David A. Bednar, Quentin L. Cook, Ulisses Soares, and Dallin H. Oaks—had two star players in the form of Ulisses Soares and David A. Bednar. Ulisses Soares managed to dodge past linemen D. Todd Christofferson and Dale G. Renlund in order to make an amazing touchdown, bringing the score to an even 7-7.

While Homies in Christ fought a hard fight, Holier Than Thou managed to snatch the win. At the end of the fourth quarter, the score stood 27-35, and Holier Than Thou was met with cheering fans who stormed the field.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” remarked President Nelson. “Elder Soares truly is a star quarterback, but we can’t belittle the efforts of running back Elder Holland and cornerback President Oaks.”

“We almost had them,” bemoaned President Eyring. “If only Elder Christofferson hadn’t fumbled that ball.”
