If you have been living under a rock, you may not have heard of the petition to change the Talmage Building’s statue. Nor would you have had you heard of the plans to implement this change. Well, that’s what we’re here for—reporting real news to real people.

Here is the petition description, as written by Dya Rhea:

“The statue of Po the Panda is not only irrelevant to BYU’s mission statement but also quite frankly irreverent. Why does he not have a shirt on? The Honor Code explicitly states that students must have a shirt on at all times, yet somehow the statue is granted an exception from this rule. Kevin J Worthen, we are looking to you to uphold the dignity and respect that the Lord’s University so desperately requires.

“We propose an alternative: a statue of Jesus Christ. It would really bring the Spirit into our beloved Talmage Building. Nothing is worse than walking out of Linear Algebra and seeing Po’s smirking face, reminding you that you are failing all your math classes and will amount to nothing.

“Please consider changing the statue. It would make BYU so much better.”

Elder Neil L Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared this on his Instagram, encouraging people to sign. He posted, “Po has to go.”
