In Honor of President’s Day: Four Truths and a Lie About President Nelson

What better way to sustain our church leaders and general authorities than by celebrating the holiday made just for them: President’s day! Faithful church members around the world will be celebrating our beloved prophet, President Nelson, all day today. In honor of this great day, here’s four truths and a lie about President Russell M. Nelson.

  1. Russell the Wilderness Explorer from the Pixar movie Up was actually named after President Nelson. Filmmakers wanted a strong role model to look up to while making the movie and decided that a great way to keep that example in their minds was by naming a main character after him.
  2. In the ’80s, President Nelson was in a boy band with BYU’s own President Kevin J. Worthen.
  3. Nelson and his wife, Wendy, have a summer job at Disney World playing Peter Pan and Wendy.
  4. President Nelson is one of very few people in the world with perfect pitch.
  5. Before becoming a heart surgeon, Nelson competed in figure skating with team USA at the Olympics.
