Library Collections Manager Susan Bradshaw gives her explanation of what makes these few novels “too scandalous” for the Harold B. Lee Library. Bradshaw has even gone so far to censor notable alumna Stephanie Meyer, surely provoking inevitable riots on campus.
- Twilight
- “The idea of vampires and other supernatural entities is already problematic, but Stephanie Myer crosses the line in her debut novel by making them ‘sexy’ and implying a teen romance can have passion.”
- New Moon
- “Despite the correct portrayal of a woman’s brain unraveling without a man in her life, Meyer expands her disrespectful supernatural universe with the introduction of werewolves and the Volturi- who we’re pretty sure are gay.”
- Eclipse
- “At this point, 80% of Meyer’s series have been made up of excessive gawking, moaning, and the characters being in a constant state of almost fornicating. Both uncomfortable and unacceptable.”
- Breaking Dawn
- “Surprisingly, the biggest issue in Meyer’s final novel isn’t that the two main characters finally have sex, it’s that it’s now taken us three books to get to this point the payoff is honestly underwhelming.”
- Mein Kampf
- “Inexcusable pacing problems.”
