You may have heard the Church’s decision to close the doors on its fondly-regarded cupcake temple. Fret not, for there will be another temple in its place. The wedding cake temple.
The temple, shaped like a three-tiered wedding cake, will be only for live sealings. This temple’s mission is hoped to fill in the gaps left by other temples struggling to meet demand for sealings as marriage rates are spiking.
According to BYU’s College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, or College of PMS, engagement rates have increased 150% following President Nelson’s advice to get married.
Joseph F Smith dedicated the o.g. Provo temple in 1972, closely following the dedications of the Provo City Center temple and the Salt Lake City temple. In a historic repetition, The Salt Lake City Center Temple Center Temple will be dedicated only a week before the Provo temple rededication.
Phil McBerstein, spokesperson for the Church’s temple department, comments on the symbolism.
“Like the great tower of Babel, this temple will be tall and attempt to reach heaven, reminding newlyweds that they still have a long, long, long way to go before actually enjoying the blessings of the gospel.”
