Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday among BYU students. A break from school, seeing family, and lots of food that you probably didn’t have to pay for are all upsides to the holiday. Another fun event associated with the holiday that is gaining popularity is holding a Friendsgiving the week before Thanksgiving. A group of friends will hold a Thanksgiving dinner together before everyone goes off to their respective families for the actual holiday. This trend seems to have begun with the younger generation, but it is gaining more popularity. This year, even the quorum of the twelve apostles held one. And it went… well, we’ll just let them tell about it.
“We all had a great time and everyone’s food was delicious… except- well don’t tell him I said this but I have no idea what Dieter brought. I think he said is was called something like Hackeshplighter? All I know is that I don’t trust it.”
– Gerrit W. Gong, doesn’t appreciate cultural diversity
“It’s called Hackepeter, it’s a traditional German dish consisting of raw pork in the shape of a hedgehog. I’m so glad everyone liked it. I just wish that we had gotten to play Among Us after dinner, we had such a good time the last time we played.”
– Dieter F. Uchtdorf, doesn’t think raw meat is that sus
“I cannot believe that Dallin brought mashed potatoes made from a mix, they taste so much worse and everyone can tell. Mashed potatoes are my favorite part of the meal and Dallin singlehandedly ruined the whole vibe for me.”
– David A. Bednar, former president of BYU-Idaho
“You know what, I don’t have to take this from someone who puts marshmallows on sweet potatoes and thinks that is a good contribution to the meal instead of the completely horrendous monstrosity that it is!”
– Dallin H. Oaks, feeling attacked
“David and Dallin’s fistfight just made everything feel so homey, it’s exactly what my daughters do every time we get together. We should do this every year.”
– Russell M. Nelson, sentimental
