Jarom Jorgensen, a sophomore at BYU studying political science, is now prepared for the debates with his family over Thanksgiving dinner. Jarom has both very conservative and liberal relatives who will inevitably start fighting over current political affairs. According to him, this year will be different. He is studying to be a lawyer and is now obviously smarter than everyone in his family, especially the ones who didn’t go to college.
Having taken a whopping four political science classes in his three semesters at BYU, he now knows how every single one of them is wrong. “These people don’t even know how biased they are. They haven’t thought through everything like me.”
Jarom was thoroughly confused last Thanksgiving with all the talk of the election. This year he’ll be ready because he has notecards full of statistics to contradict anything that anyone says.
The biggest hope for Jarom this year is to dunk on his Aunt Becky and his Uncle Howard who almost came to blows last year. Jarom believes that if he can show them up he will become the favorite grandchild/nephew/cousin.
Only time will tell how successful Jarom is on Thursday. If he does prove his relatives wrong, he plans to write a book in between semesters next summer. He wants everyone to know they can be just like him.
