Provo residents out and about this morning may have noticed the giant hooters logo atop the BYU Lavelle Edwards Stadium. Seemingly overnight, the previous NuSkin emblem was torn down and replaced in response to sponsorship changes for the BYU Football team.
To understand the reasoning behind this sudden switch, the Alternate Universe sent their most seasoned reporter to speak with Seymour Butts, BYU Football Financial Manager.
“We don’t like what NuSkin stands for. There’s so much more to our players than what is skin deep,” says Butts.
Disgusted by the objectification that comes with the beauty industry, BYU dropped NuSkin in favor of a more neutral sponsor.
“We are also opening a Hooters restaurant in the concession area. We’re hoping to get it open in a couple of months when we can finally find employees,” says Butts.
Parents, students, and fans alike report being worried about what might happen to the family-friendly environment that has always been enjoyed in the stadium during football season. Most concerning is the proposed replacement of the Cougarettes with Hooters waitresses during the half-time show.
While this new sponsorship means a lot more money for BYU football, what does it mean for the image of BYU? Will Cosmo the Cougar soon shed his BYU jersey for a hooters uniform? Perhaps only time will tell.
