Feud Breaks Out In Utah Suburb Over Which Day to Trick-or-Treat

With the October holiday falling on a Sunday this year, tensions have been high around choosing a day to trick-or-treat on. The issue came to a head when the local HOA president sent out an email to the mothers in the Heber neighborhood saying that they would be observing Halloween on the 30th.

The following quotes were leaked from the email chain, where those involved used the “reply all” function liberally.

“Separation of Church and State, heard of it?” said Shannon Johnson. “That means I have a legal right to take my kids trick-or-treating on a school night.”

Johnson continued, saying that if people wanted LDS-friendly candy collection, “they should go to their ward trunk or treat.”

Jossiliyn Porter, who sent the original email, remained firm on her position, going as far as to say, “Choose you this day whom ye will serve, but as for me and my house, we will be handing out full-size candy bars tonight only.”

Despite being the only two active in the email chain, the two mothers managed to escalate to the point where Porter swore to take down her Halloween decorations right after trick-or-treating today. She said, “It’s about time for the Christmas decorations to go up anyways.”

Elijah Olsen, a local 8-year-old gave his thoughts on the situation, “This is awesome, I’m gonna go out on both nights and get twice as much candy!”
