Church Announces Global First Presidency Halloween Devotional on Sunday, October 31st

Yesterday morning, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that next Sunday, October 31st, the First Presidency will be holding a Halloween Devotional to be live-streamed globally. This will be the first time that the church has done a special event for this non-religious holiday.

While this may have come as a surprise to many members, the phenomenon of Halloween falling on a Sunday this year has caused great concern to the brethren who want to deter members from sinning on the Sabbath by trick-or-treating, or even worse- partying.

“We are eager to share with the world how the gospel is a treat that conquers Satan’s tricks,” read the official announcement. “The only ghost that should be on our minds and hearts next Sunday is the Holy Ghost.”

It has been confirmed that The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square will be performing at this event. Straying slightly from their usual performances, they are planning on solely singing songs about the Holy Ghost and will be dressed in sheet ghost costumes.

Buzz has already started to grow surrounding next week’s devotional.

“I don’t know what Halloween is, but my family and are I excited to hear from the brethren. It will be a two-day journey on foot to the nearest television, but we know that sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven,” said Paulo Carlos, a confused but faithful Latter-Day Saint in rural Brazil.

It is a blessing you won’t have to be anywhere near the conference center to feel the excitement when President Eyring shoots off his candy canon into the crowd. Elder Bednar will also be teaching everyone the Thriller dance. Though it has not yet been confirmed, rumors of Elder Oaks sporting a pumpkin head are already circulating.

Tune in next Sunday at 6pm on BYUtv, Youtube, or churchofjesuschrist.org to stream this historic devotional.
