Have you ever wanted to get that girl’s number in Writing 150 but been too shy to ask? BYU has now made it possible with a new dating feature on the university’s official app.
Coming Fall 2021, this new feature will allow students to swipe through their classmates looking for a potential eternal companion. BYU has created a personalized profile for each unmarried student using their ID pictures and information from the Person Directory.
The dating feature will include a rating system that takes into account students’ majors, jobs, ward callings, and the last time they prayed. Although this ranking system is taken into account in the algorithm, students can pay to see individual scores by subscribing to a premium membership. The premium membership also allows students to add to their bio their favorite scripture and which temple they wish to get married in.
BrynLeigha Andrews, creator of the app, describes it as a “great way for students to achieve what they set out to do when they came here: get married.”
When asked about lgbtq+ students, she responded, “of course we thought of them, we’re all about inclusivity here at BYU.” She went on to describe a button in the bottom corner of the feature labeled “lgbtq+” that links to a copy of The Family a Proclamation to the World.
She concluded by telling us how excited she is for her new feature to launch and hopes that it will lead her, and many others, to find “the one.”
