Fatal Mistake: Freshman Accidentally Reveals Personality and Interests to New Bishop

For many, the BYU first-year experience is unforgettable: getting lost trying to find your class in the JKB, cheering in the student section for a losing football team, enduring the trauma of swing dancing, etc. But unfortunately for incoming freshmen, this precious first-year experience may still be at risk. At least they can rest easy knowing they won’t have to worry about the absence of a church calling!

With intense eye contact and a firm handshake ready, YSA bishops all across town are locked and loaded for the Fall ‘21 season. Freshman Audrey Jensen joined their list of victims shortly after arriving in Provo. Upon her first Sunday experience, Jensen found herself in a vortex of unnecessary small talk with her new bishop that quickly spiraled into a discussion of calling opportunities.

“The eerie twinkle in his eye when I mentioned taking piano lessons for two months at eight years old told me everything I needed to know,” said Jensen. “Mistakes were made.”

Now Jensen will get the true freshman experience of learning to avoid all interactions with her bishopric. And with Jensen’s hesitant acceptance to become ward pianist, the Provo 172nd YSA Ward will now have the pleasure of hearing “Nearer, My God, to Thee” every Sunday.
