Cosmo’s true identity has been a mystery for many decades. Many people have claimed to be the famed mascot, but they have all been found out to be liars. The big cat has been revealed to be none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Since 2019, he has donned the cougar costume almost weekly in support of BYU sports. “That explains all the pec-popping,” says junior Maidge Sanderson.
While returning home from the promotional tour for his new movie, Jungle Cruise, Johnson’s suitcase was lost during a flight. A nosy luggage handler at Los Angeles International Airport found and went through the whole suitcase. He was surprised to find a few BYU jerseys, football pants, and a whole cougar outfit.
Everyone’s favorite mascot has benefited from the positive disposition of Mr. The Rock. Admittedly, it is suspicious that we have never seen Dwayne whip out those sick dance moves he uses with the Cougarettes. However, it does explain why we never hear Cosmo sing.
You may be wondering how The Rock can handle all the BYU sporting events while starring in 13 movies per year. Johnson has reportedly decided to only do one take for each scene. “If he doesn’t get the line right, that scene doesn’t make it into the movie,” says director David Leitch, with whom Johnson worked on the critically-acclaimed film, Hobbs & Shaw.
