On Monday, the BYU athletic department unveiled a new locker room for football players. Located in the Student-Athlete Building, this is the first renovation the building has received since it was constructed in 2004. The room includes individual lockers highlighted with the player’s name and a picture of the athlete. Each locker has a padded chair, cup holder, electric outlets, racks for helmets and shoulder pads, and areas for clothing and shoes.

Coaches and fans seem to approve of the new facilities, calling the locker room “adequate” and saying that “it will do”. Players have been even more enthusiastic in their response. Several have reportedly sold their current apartment contracts with plans to move into the locker room permanently (or at least until they get scouted by the NFL and can move into their locker room).
This plan, however, may not work out in the end. Pete Walkerson, a representative of the BYU athletics department has confirmed that this behavior is not allowed. “But don’t worry,” Walkerson stated, “We will be disciplining the players involved, the way we always hold athletes accountable for their actions. They don’t know about the time out corner in the locker room yet.”
