The famous Y-App, used by BYU students for many things, has been updated with a groundbreaking new feature. The app now includes a conversational AI like Alexa, Siri, or the Google Assistant.
Students can just say, “Hey Y-App,” and then whatever action they need the app to perform. They can add a class, or order pure happiness from Aloha Plate.
They will also be given the option to change the voice that responds. The default voice is everyone’s favorite school president, Kevin Worthen. Mormon celebrities like Brandon Flowers, Jon Heder, and Donny & Marie are also available.
General Authorities’ voices will be added over the next few months. “We have thousands of hours of general conference talks that can be used to respond to anything.” Thomas S. Monson’s friendly voice has already been added. Students will also have choice of friendly or angry Jeffrey R. Holland.
The most controversial voice so far is Cosmo the Cougar. Students have asked a question to the app and all they get in response are cougar noises. There is no translation yet, but that may be added in the future.
Learning Suite will reportedly continue to be terrible. No AI will ever be able to fix that.
