Who knew Joe Rogan and Kevin Worthen would see eye to eye?
Hundreds of civilians in Utah Valley eagerly stared at the sky as a recently returned missionary, Harold Renlund, proposed to his girlfriend on Sunday.
Using MSF, or Missionary Supplement Funds, that he gathered from his trainees on his mission, Renlund paid a pilot to spell out the words, “Will you marry me, Dorothy?” this Sunday afternoon. Dorothy and Harold had been dating for just six weeks prior to his proposal.
“On my mission, the immigrants I was teaching would often get baptized after six weeks. I don’t see why marriage had to be any different,” Renlund told The Alternate Universe.
Renlund was inspired to propose after seeing the viral story of the man in Los Angeles who used the same technique to propose to his now-fiancée. The story picked up national attention because the pilot additionally spelled out “Joe Rogan is five foot three” once the proposal was completed.
As with this viral story, our local love story had an unexpected message added as well.
Jackxston McGurney, a former companion and student currently enrolled in UVU’s prestigious flight program, saw the opportunity and ran with it – or flew with it rather.
“I knew exactly what I had to do,” McGurney told The Alternate Universe.
As many of you might have seen in the sky on Sunday, after completing his friend’s request, McGurney spelled out, “Kevin Worthen is four foot ten,” and paid homage to his fellow pilot in Los Angeles.
This stunt outraged many BYU administrators and they immediately attempted to find out who was responsible. They were eventually able to track down Renlund, who is ultimately being held responsible for the event. He had this to say on the matter:
“I didn’t realize he would do that, I just wanted to impress my bae. I have never even seen President Worthen’s legs! He’s always hiding behind the pulpit!”
Both McGurney and Renlund are currently being held in BYU Parking Police custody. BYU has offered no comments on the true height of President Worthen. Only time will tell…
