The announcement that the LDS Church and the NAACP will be working together over the next couple of years left many wondering how this working relationship began.
In fact, the two organizations have been working closely together since late 2020, when Elder Dallin H. Oaks bravely revealed that he thinks black people deserve to live.
“I had never seen such an incredible ally,” said Sherrilyn Castillo, NAACP Board Member. “The lengths that Dallin is willing to go to is awe-inspiring.”
This new partnership, which pledges to end racism in the next three years, involves the church funding several causes and organizations that the NAACP is involved with. These efforts include scholarships, inner-city humanitarian aid, and cultural trips to Ghana.
Oaks himself hopes to travel with some of the students on the trips to Ghana, as he feels that pictures of himself with little African children would be perfect for his Instagram.
