HGTV Drops New Show Where Joanna Gaines Flips Church Buildings

Move over, Property Brothers. Earlier this week, HGTV premiered the first episode of a hot, new show featuring Joanna Gaines, frontwoman of the wildly popular house-flipping series, Fixer Upper. In Latter Day Flip, Joanna takes on a challenge that has never been attempted before – revamping old Latter Day Saint churches so they actually look like they belong in the 21st century.

“You believe in restoration, I believe in renovation”, says Joanna at the end of the opening theme.

In the first episode of the show, Joanna flipped an old stake center in Waco, Texas. She made a slew of changes, starting with replacing all those cold metal chairs with white French upholstered chairs. Looking to fill the church with more natural lighting and air circulation, she got rid of all the old windows that don’t actually open and installed larger panes in their place.

The stake center became almost unrecognizable once Joanna stripped all of the scratchy burlap off of the walls and replaced it with prayer hands emoji wallpaper.

“I’m thinking barn doors on the entrance of the chapel”, she said with a glimmer in her eyes.

Though the majority of the first episode’s viewer reviews were positive, some found that the new barred door Joanna put on the nursery made it look too much like a baby jail.

New episodes come out every Monday night, allowing viewing it to be a perfect Family Home Evening activity.
