When Cashton Knight attempted to take his accounting 200 exam on the sabbath, allegedly to, “get it out of the way” the new Sunday safety protocol kicked in, shutting down his computer, failing him automatically, and calling his grandmother to report his transgression.
Knight was allegedly “shocked” and thinks that the safety protocol is “a bit of an overreaction.” he added that it was “unfair” to not just have the exam temporarily closed on Sunday, and to instead “destroy his life” over a “mistake.”
Knight’s grandmother was understandably upset when she learned her grandson was on the precipice of apostasy. “I can’t believe our ancestors crossed the plains for this,” she said through tears.
The new safety protocol was implemented this semester after the transition to online finals led to more and more exams being taken on Sundays.
“The testing center is closed on Sundays, why do people think that it’s okay to take an exam when the testing center would be closed?” said BYU spokesperson Megan Tenley. “Students should know better than to do any homework on the sabbath.”
Knight’s accounting professor was disappointed but unsurprised, “Cashton was just one of the four-hundred students who attempted to take the final on Sunday this semester.” He added, “Perhaps I shouldn’t have set it to close on Monday.”
So glad my children would never make this mistake!
