From NFL Playoff games to international religious conferences, Nickelodeon has been really expanding its programming horizons. Like many of their former child actors, Nickelodeon has begun rebranding and attempting to seem more mature than they actually are.
Reports have recently been released that the 191st Annual General Conference will be shown exclusively on Nickelodeon. In this surprising turn of events, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has sold all television and streaming rights to Nickelodeon which includes many television programs outside of General Conference.
Nickelodeon outbid the likes of MTV, The Discovery Channel, and The Oprah Network for the right to broadcast this semi-annual event. It has been speculated that this move was made to bring a younger audience to this worldwide event.
Due to this change, there will also be some changes to the production itself. Every speaker will be showered with Nickelodeon’s famous green slime after they finish their talk. During the break between sessions, there will be a half-time performance by Spongebob’s 10-time platinum band, “Band Geeks”.
As if to reward their patient viewers at the end of the Sunday Afternoon session, Nickelodeon will be premiering their new movie original, “iCarly: Tik Tok Sensation” for the first time. These additions along with future changes will become the new normal as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has signed a contract with Nickelodeon until the Millennium.
“We saw this as an amazing business opportunity,” CEO of Nickelodeon Ramsey Naito told the Alternative Universe. “Although it is a privilege to host General Conference, we really only wanted the rights to produce a reality TV show about the Quorum of the Twelve and The First Presidency. We are hoping to get some real juicy stuff from these guys.”
