BYU Tenants Union Demands $10 Rent Decrease, Landlords Counter With Weird Communal Barbeque

In an effort to counter rising housing costs in Provo, the BYU Tenants Union has made a push for lowering rent across all student housing by $10 per month. Housing costs have risen significantly in Provo over the past 5 years. This has also coincided with the disappearance of Fall-Winter contracts in favor of year-round obligations.

“I’ve been living in Provo for about four years now and I’ve seen my rent go from $273 a month from September to April to $350 a month year round. The quality of the apartments hasn’t really changed all that month either. It’s very disappointing.” says BYU student Harold Farms.

In response to these demands, Provo student housing landlords have decided to hold an addition weird communal barbeque for the eight people that actually go that sort of thing. “We think it’s important for people to know that we really care, so instead of keeping rent lower or offering contracts that better suit the needs of students, we decided to give them what they really want: hotdogs and lukewarm soda served by our RA’s” said a spokesperson for the Provo Landlord Confederacy.
