Elder Bednar wears Utah Jazz sweatpants during meeting

At the end of an online stake training meeting with the American Fork West Stake, Elder David A. Bednar revealed that he was actually wearing Utah Jazz sweatpants with his white shirt and tie. He explained, “It’s NBA All-Star Weekend and I have to rep my squad – especially after Gobert and Spida got disrespected like that in the draft.”

Reactions varied among the members present. Chris Christensen, a Sunday School secretary, was appalled. “I can’t believe he would deceive and disgrace the reverence of our meeting like that,” he said. Chad Michelsen loved it and said, “Man, Bednar is awesome. I always knew he was cool. He’s definitely ‘one of us.’” Mandy Sanderson had a different take: “I totally resonate with the sentiment. I always just wear a nice top and sweatpants for these online things. As a Rockets fan I was mostly just disappointed that they were Jazz sweatpants.”

Elder Bednar says he will miss the opportunity to wear sweatpants everyday when the pandemic is over: “Why should I be uncomfortable if I don’t have to?” Bednar added that he and the Twelve even do this during their virtual Quorum meetings: “We used to have Crazy Sock Friday, but now everyday is Crazy Pants Day for us.”
