Over Valentine’s weekend it was revealed that the Honor Code Office (HCO) used the dating app Mutual to trick BYU students into trying to break the Honor Code. The HCO reportedly made fake accounts in order to lure male and female students into “compromising” situations.
After swiping and matching, they would invite students to NCMO or get a nose ring. When the students agreed, they would immediately send the BYU Parking Police over to their apartment. With less students and faculty coming to campus, they have been hard-pressed to fill their time. The opportunity to torment students in their homes was too hard to pass up.
Accused students were taken to the basement of the MARB and locked up. Those close to the students were told that their friends were quarantining due to COVID exposure.
The J. Reuben Clark Law School plans to debate the legality of the pre-crime arrests this week.
