Maggie Masterson of Saratoga Springs, Utah celebrated a massive victory on Saturday night when her two year-old, Kahnrad, stayed quiet for an entire family prayer. The toddler reportedly stared at his feet for the duration of said prayer.
Kahnrad is the youngest of Maggie and Marty Masterson. She was ecstatic as they “haven’t had a fully silent family prayer since 2009.” For years they have been taking turns dealing with restless infants and toddlers during the nightly attempt to pray as a family.
Their five other children, Arik, 12; Korver, 10; Jaiyde, 8; Marlee, 6; and Karolyne, 4, typically have to suppress laughter at their parents’ struggle to maintain the reverence of their youngest siblings.
Of the silent prayer, Arik said, “It was weird. Normally there’s tons of noise, but nothing was happening so I actually had to listen to Jaiyde pray. It was actually pretty decent. Sometimes I forget those middle kids exist.” Korver, on the other hand, was a little disappointed: “I usually peek my eyes a little to watch Kahnrad rolling around, but he just sat there doing nothing. It was so boring.”
