The church announced 10 “spin-offs” from the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants, including the Book of Gidgiddoni, the Book of Benjamin, and the Doctrine of Martin Harris.
These books will overlap with the stories that they come from, but also explore the inner lives and adventures of these formerly minor “characters” in core LDS doctrine.
Additionally, a remake of The Book of Moses has been announced. People have speculated that it will draw more on the original source material in Genesis.
Church spokesperson Judson Allred said, “I hope everyone is ready to see Adam and Eve like you’ve never seen them before!”
Not everyone was happy about the announcement, several missionaries have been quoted, lamenting having to memorize more verses, and “having to lug around more than a quad.”
Some also take issue with the LDS church’s choice to announce this now, noted critic and ex-BYU graduate Allie Jones said that “this is an obvious grab by the church to bring on more faithful members.”
Gaige Jensen, who works for Deseret Book, disagreed, “we are blessed to receive more of the good word.” He added, “also, we’re taking preorders for new scripture sets, what color do you want?”
