BYU critics and fans alike are calling for Cosmo the Cougar to disavow the “heinous and criminal” actions of another cougar over the weekend. Video footage was leaked wherein a mountain lion, better known as a “cougar” stalked and harassed a man for several minutes.
BYU has been able to confirm that the animal depicted is not in fact beloved mascot Cosmo the cougar, but people are still waiting on an official statement from Cosmo.
Ex-BYU graduate Allie Jones said on Twitter, “The fact that Cosmo hasn’t made a statement speaks volumes.” In a 15 part thread she continued, “Maybe if BYU spent more time training wild cougars, and less time making discipled scholars then this wouldn’t be an issue.”
Self-proclaimed BYU Superfan Tanner Graham was not so quick to condemn Cosmo, believing instead that everything would go back to normal once Cosmo said something about it. He did however add that he still thinks a statement should be made, “just to clear the air.”
UVU Spokesperson Glenn Hanson weighed in saying that they can not yet rule out this being an “intentional attack” from BYU. He called the entire situation “suspicious” and added, “If it had been a Wolverine, Willy would have made a statement days ago.”
Cosmo has not yet been available for comment.
