On the morning of the October 3rd session of General Conference, Elder David A Bednar gave a powerful talk on the importance of tests, and how they prepare us for both academic pursuits and life.
While rousing to most who heard it, the talk reminded Samuel Aggleton, a former student of Elder Bednar’s, of some tough memories.
Samuel took to Twitter to proclaim: “Elder Bednar’s tests were a ‘proving’ and ‘trying’ time of my life. That’s for sure.”
Samuel Aggleton was a student of David A Bednar many years ago at Texas Tech University. There he studied management.
“Elder Bednar was, generally speaking, a phenomenal teacher..” he continued in a Twitlonger. “He was great at emphasizing to students the importance of what he was teaching and complimenting his lessons with engaging homework assignments. However, his tests… were a different story.”
“It’s funny that Elder Bednar mentioned unannounced tests in his talk, because many of his tests were unannounced. Not only that, but he also mentioned being so prepared that you wouldn’t have to worry so much about tests. That was untrue in my experience, his tests were often so comprehensive that there was never a way to be fully prepared for the next surprise exam!”
“Worst of all was finals, don’t even get me started on finals! The final had over 580 questions over every piece of information imaginable. His finals were so intensive, that preparing for his test made me struggle for my other finals.”
Samuel ended his statement with: “Needless to say, finals time was NOT the least stressful part of my schooling.”
