When Utah County saw a spike in COVID-19 cases, true BYU fans were worried about one thing. How would they attend football games? Thanks to some ingenuity on the part of the college, fans were given the opportunity to “pack the seats” via lifesize cardboard cutouts.
Local man Stryker Johnson, who hasn’t done anything social outside of his apartment in over 4 months, was the first to purchase a “fan package.” For the low price of $299.99 Johnson not only got his cardboard cutout in the stands, he also received a commemorative cup and a squished cougar tail in a paper bag.
He was thrilled when he realized that his cutout was placed only 6 rows from his idol, Jimmer Fredette. “I was basically sitting right next to him, I got a picture off my TV screen and he’s right there by me!”
Johnson, who again, hasn’t spoken to anyone but his roommates since the last time he ordered Postmates, thinks that he and Jimmer would be great friends if given the chance. “Yes, technically, he’s 10 years older and married, but I just feel like we have this connection.”
A picture from the game that circulated on social media including Johnson’s two-dimensional self got over 400 likes, meaning that the cutout is also more popular online than Johnson.
