When famous rapper, singer, and songwriter Kanye West announced that he would be running for president earlier this week, few people took him seriously. Just this morning, however, West doubled-down on his presidential aspirations, releasing a detailed platform of ideas. Critics are already pointing out that the 70-page manifesto is based entirely on the text and melodies of the Children’s Songbook of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“I was reading through the section entitled ‘Called to Serve‘ when I realized this was more of religious marching toon than a true policy proposal for the military.” says political analyst Kevin Asher, “I’m not sure if ‘I’m so Glad When Daddy Comes Home‘ is West’s actual position on traditional family roles, but it could draw controversy.”
The massive PDF document that West sent to the press has something to say about most every topic in American life. Each section features a few lines of what appears to be poetry alongside musical notation and even hand-drawn pictures. West’s supporters are reportedly most excited about his stance on global warming included in the memorandum “Teach Me to Walk in the Light” and his apparent pro-immigrant message expounded upon in “Family History – I Am Doing It“.
Although West has succeeded in producing an engaging platform to run on, elections officials are reminding the public that they have yet to receive completed paperwork from the would-be president, and that he has altogether missed the filing deadline in 10 states. Additionally, West had to have his proposal “Choose the Right” removed from his platform when it was pointed out to him that he could not run as the Republican nominee.
