Following a turbulent afternoon of protests in Salt Lake City, one in which thousands gathered to demand an end to police brutality and racism, Utah’s Governor Gary Herbert issued a curfew, stating: “For the next couple days the Spirit goes to bed at 8PM instead of midnight.”
“You really don’t want to be out past 8PM again until Monday.” the statement issued by the Governor’s office continues, “No one makes any good decisions when the Spirit is sleeping, and not even baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be able to have the Spirit with them when the clock strikes 8:01 tonight.”
Although protestors were understandably disappointed, they didn’t want to take a chance staying up for even a second after when the Spirit was going to bed.
“Honestly, I was surprised.” says protestor Jordan Wells, “My whole life I’ve thought that 12AM was when we needed to wrap things up to keep our good judgment, but I guess every once in a while the Spirit decides to turn in early.”
Most protestors made it to bed on time last night, and have been peacefully resting in bed this morning, just to be sure.
