Since Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that 17 temples would be reopening for live sealings this month, General Authorities quickly issued the call to awaken two dozen sealers who had been frozen at the start of the pandemic. Sources confirm they represent an elite force of priesthood holders who can confidently perform sealings without fear of becoming infected.
“When we shut the temples down, we immediately returned all sealers to their cryo chambers. There they have slept completely frozen for months – patiently waiting for the day when the world would need them again.” says Provo Temple janitor Henry Smith, “Rumor has it that the sealers being awoken for this duty represent a new, virus-resistant strain.”
While temple sealers’ bodies adjust to conditions outside the icy walls of their preservation pods, the air conditioning in each reopening temple will be set to full blast. Temple patrons are allowed to bring in an approved, white winter coat. Patrons are also being asked to refrain from making small talk with sealers, many of whom are still struggling to remember their pasts.
“It may seem like a drastic move, but the priesthood keys are important. We’ve got all of the apostles rotating in and out of cryo chambers too. I mean, this thing hasn’t exactly been kind to older folks.” says Church spokesperson Jerric Fawkins.
The Church hopes to reopen temples completely in the next couple months, but is still waiting to see how the virus progresses. In the meantime, they will continue their work on preserving and developing the ideal genetic sequence of a sealer.
