Single Provo-Area Men Saving Stimulus Money For Engagement Ring

As millions across the nation spend their stimulus money to afford rent, groceries, and other expenses while dealing with the economic impact of Covid-19, some Provo-area men have taken a different approach.

“Saving the money for a ring is clearly the right choice here.” says BYU student Chaz Winfield. “Besides, $1,200 is more than two months of rent so it’ll make whoever I give it to feel extra special.”

While many are concerned that the stimulus money isn’t going to be spent at local business, helping them survive the limiting conditions of social distancing, Chaz isn’t worried about the effects of his hoarding. “I think it’s all under control to be honest, I’m mostly just bummed that most girls won’t go on dates with me because of the pandemic and no other reason.”

A recent study of Provo-area students showed that 31% of men ages 19-25 are planning on using their funds to purchase an engagement ring when the time comes. A companion study indicated that 99.7% of Provo-area female students didn’t want to date Chaz under any circumstances.

Undaunted by these numbers, Chaz insists that he’s just waiting for the right girl and “could have gotten married a while ago if I didn’t have such high standards.”
