The Communist Party of China was thrilled with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ recent announcement of intentions to build a temple in Shangai, and have decided to celebrate this momentous occasion with a commemorative wiretap button. Chinese President and Party General Secretary Xi Jinping hopes that saints around the world will order one, and wear it wherever they go for many years to come.
“This is special moment in religious story of our country,” says Xi Jinping in a press release, “Do not forget to give commemorative button 5 hours of sunlight energy, once a month. Thank you.”
But Xi Jinping’s generosity did not end with the button. The Chinese government has also graciously offered up its finest workers and most skilled surveillance professionals to help out when the Church begins construction. They hope the temple can begin a new era of friendship, one where the People’s Republic of China can “thoroughly and meticulously understand the daily lives of its citizens that are members of the Church.”
It is unclear whether or not the Church will accept China’s aid. In the meantime, President Xi Jinping will continue to encourage the saints to pin the commemorative button “as close to the mouth as possible” and exhibit a spirit of giving by sharing it with other friends and family members.
