Following the September announcement that Shakira and Jennifer Lopez would be co-headlining this year’s Super Bowl LIV halftime show, public unrest has been high. The artists– known respectively for hits such as “Hips Don’t Lie” and “If You Had My Love” – have been hit with preemptive backlash over what people think the show will probably be like.
“Her hips don’t lie,” retorted Joanne Davis, a local Utah County mom and step aerobics instructor, when asked about her thoughts on the upcoming event, “That’s exactly what I’m afraid of.”
Fellow Utah County resident and student Cayde Clarkson expressed similar concerns: “I just can’t help but think: what would happen if I had her love? Seems pretty fishy to me. I don’t trust it.”
Google has even reported that the searches, “how to edit live tv,” “how to stop these nasty women,” and “how to change super bowl halftime show 2020,” each shot up in Utah in the months subsequent to the initial announcement.
When this information became available to the public, people banded together to request popular video filtering website VidAngel get involved. Earlier this week, the Provo-based company confirmed that they would. One of our reporters set up a meeting to see what the service’s involvement would entail.
“We believe in great content,” Vidtoria Angelin, the founder and CEO of VidAngel, read from their website. “We believe in personal freedom. You have the choice to BLEEP what you want.” She then put her phone down to clarify, “Basically we’re editing both women’s hips out of the live feed. It’s the right thing to do.”
VidAngel’s signature filtering will be enabled on the halftime show for everyone in the Rockies with cable, and people can finally have peace of mind knowing that their Sunday won’t be disrupted by harmful content.
