Early Wednesday morning, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a press conference to announce a new addition to their holiday “Light the World” campaign. The new program, entitled “Fight the World,” is a charity boxing series held at the Marriott Center on BYU campus that will begin on December 20th, 2019. The fights will be available to purchase on pay-per-view for $50, and ticket sales will begin tonight at 9:00 PM MDT, with all proceeds going to charity.
The event will consist of three fights, two prelims and a main event. The headliner is the long-anticipated showdown of Utah Senator Mitt Romney and former General Relief Society President Linda K. Burton. The two have a history of confrontation dating back to 2012, when Linda refused to vote for Mitt in the presidential election, an action that reportedly made Romney “very sad.”
“The bad blood is still as strong as ever,” says Burton’s trainer. “We look forward to Linda putting her mitts through Romney’s head.” Romney’s camp was quick to respond by saying “Our boy Mitt founded Bain Capital, and you best assume that Linda will find nothing but Pain Capital in the ring.”
The preliminary fights will feature former teen heart-throb David Archuleta versus mission-appropriate music superstar Nathan Pacheco, followed by a mob of angry people from Twitter against the ghost of Brigham Young. All fights will be called by Max Kellerman of ESPN and officiated by the ghost of Karl G. Maeser, who is sure to call a clean fight.
