Immediately following the roll-out of a new program providing rentable electric scooters in south Provo, the Provo City Transit has announced a new Pogo stick sharing service. The program, scheduled to launch in late April, will feature publicly available Pogo sticks that can be rented for a flat two dollar fee, or .1 cent per bounce.
“We’re excited to bring this bold new form of public transportation to the city of Provo.” says city spokesman Paul Newport, “We feel that it really pushes our community forward to the leading edge of innovative, eco-friendly, semi-suburban college towns in Utah county.”
While the entertainment value of public Pogo sticks is undeniable, critics have voiced a myriad of concerns with the new initiative. A group of concerned homeowners started a petition to cancel the Pogo project before it was publicly introduced, citing doubts about the efficacy of commuting via Pogo stick.
“The streets around here already get a little crazy as is, adding the scooters makes things a little more complicated, but I can’t imagine pulling up to a roundabout and having to yield to a group of Pogo-ers hopping through the intersection.” Says group leader Janet Wilson.
Their cause quickly gained traction after public outrage direction network “Angry FM” picked up on the story and immediately warned subscribers about the negative impacts of allowing “Big Pogo” companies to gain more influence in the community.
