BYU to Refund Student Who Didn’t Get Engaged on Jerusalem Study Abroad

The BYU Kennedy Center announced Monday that it will refund complete tuition and travel expenses after complaints from student Jason Smith.

Smith is a sophomore studying exercise science and completed the Jerusalem study abroad during Winter Semester of 2019.

“I mean it’s nice to get religion credits or whatever,” said Smith “but I was really hoping to get engaged. I’m 21 and not getting any younger. I think I deserve a refund because I’ve never known anyone that didn’t get engaged or at least meet their fiancé in Jerusalem.”

Public records from the Kennedy Center also note that every other student participating in the program was in a serious relationship by the end of the trip.

Smith and his family released the following statement:
“We are grateful to BYU for providing this experience for Jason, but are nonetheless disappointed in the results. We have decided that Jason will continue to attend BYU, and will use the refund of the trip to participate in other travel studies, in the hopes of finding him a wife.”

“At least I’m still part of the J-Rew Crew.” Smith told the Alternate Universe after the statement was released.
