Top 8 Activities For Every New BYU Student To Try

BYU always has a variety of fun, exciting activities going on. For new freshmen feeling daunted by the sheer number of possibilities to explore, here’s a list of fun ideas to give you an introduction to student life at the Y!

1. Visit the MARB.

AKA BYU’s most popular historic landmark and feat of architectural ingenuity. A perfect spot for photos!

2. Attend a hyper-obscure colloquium so laden with jargon you can’t understand it. Nod knowingly the whole time.

It’s very interesting that ambiguities in meteor mass quantification have led to a broad range of estimates for the diurnal influx to Earth’s ionosphere. Perhaps it would be even more interesting if I knew what that meant.

3. Tell your roommate Tyson to stop leaving bread crumbs in the communal tub of butter.

Seriously, dude, it’s starting to get on my nerves. How would you feel if I left bread crumbs in the peanut butter jar, huh?

4. Watch our football team lose a game.

They had us in the first half, we’re not gonna lie. And also the second.

5. Meet 4 different Jareds.

Then try with McKennas, Dallins, and Helamans.

6. Hike the Y off-trail.

C’mon, it doesn’t look that far. It’s probably easier to go straight up without having to zig-zag around.

7. Announce a fake mission call at Tunnel Singing.

Bonus points if people gasp or cheer for you (Wow, can you believe they’re sending missionaries to North Korea now?).

8. Chug 2 gallons of BYU Creamery chocolate milk in one sitting.

No one makes it quite like BYU. Go on, show that cougar pride!
