A new study released this Saturday shows that, when dating, BYU students find the Hogwarts House of potential partners more important than almost anything else.
Hogwarts, the fictional school of wizardry created by J.K. Rowling, sorts students via magical sorting hat into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. In real life, people either take an online quiz or just decide what house they belong to.
“I mean, I could never date a Hufflepuff,” says Margaret Childs, a junior studying Engineering and a Slytherin, “they’re not even, like, clever at all.”
Researchers from the statistics department at BYU conducted the survey by taking random samples of students and asking them to rank qualities based on importance in a potential partner. Hogwarts House was ranked “most important” by over 90% of those surveyed. Other options included religious and political preferences, income, morality, and general attractiveness.
Representatives for J.K. Rowling have not responded to inquiries about the success rates of inter-house relationships.
