BYU FHE Family Uncomfortable as Jessica Questions “Parents”

BYU FHE family group 6 of the 52nd ward of the BYU YSA 4th stake had an uncomfortable weekly meeting this past Monday as family member Jessica began questioning her FHE Mom and Dad.

“So Mom, how did you and Dad meet? Was it, like, love at first sight or did you date a ton first before getting married?”

“Did it take you a long time to choose the name Jessica? Because I totally love it, and its exactly me.”

“Dad, did you know Mom dates other people? Are we are divorced family? Don’t you love her?”

“Was it hard having 12 kids, Mom? Have you ever thought about how you’ve been pregnant for a total of, like, 9 years?”

“It must’ve taken a lot of courage to start a family before graduating from college. I hope I’m brave like you one day.”

“Dad, why don’t we sit together as a family during church?”

“Hey, how come you taught Carlos how to speak Spanish and not me?”

“Are some of my siblings adopted Dad? Because I have black hair, but Rachel is blonde. Or did she just dye it?”

“Mom, did you used to be Muslim? Or a Jehovah’s Witness or something? I was just thinking the other day that we haven’t celebrated Christmas together in 20 years.”

“Dad… there’s this guy I like… I think he wants to talk to you about something…”

“Mom, if I gave you my life savings would we have enough money to buy a house that the whole family could life in together? Or do we have to keep doing the two separate apartment thing?”

“Dad, can I borrow some money?”

“Can I borrow the car?”

“Why doesn’t Bryan ever come to family home evening?”

“Why didn’t you ever tell me that I had another brother? He just showed up this semester and no one even introduced me!”

“Are you going to come to my choir concert this weekend?”

“Awww cute. Daddy-daughter date! You’re the best, Dad!”

“I don’t think brothers are supposed to date their sisters…? Right, Mom?”

“I haven’t seen you wearing your ring in a long time Mom! Did you lose it? When was the last time you remember seeing it?”

“How come my last name is so different from yours Mom? If I’m adopted you can just tell me. I’ll still love you.”

Despite the awkward silences and confusion at FHE last Monday, the family time spent playing card games ended on a high note as Jessica’s boyfriend, Jake, showed up in a tuxedo to ask permission from Jessica’s FHE Dad to marry her. Although Dad took some convincing, he eventually said yes. Another happy addition to the dysfunctional 6th FHE family of the 52nd ward of the 4th BYU YSA Stake is coming soon.
